Human Givens Psychotherapy incorporates the latest neurophysiological and psychological discoveries into a practical and powerful format for brief therapy and counselling. This approach integrates the major scientific findings of recent decades with the most effective therapeutic practice from diverse disciplines.

We all know that we have physical needs; the need for food, water, warmth and shelter to enable us to survive and thrive. It is now recognised that certain emotional needs are just as crucial for mental and physical health and well-being. A sense of security, social connection, intimacy, status, autonomy and control, competence and achievement, and meaning and purpose are also vital, if we are to stay in good health and feel fulfilled in our lives.

We possess innate resources for helping us meet these needs; these include the ability to build rapport, empathise and connect with others; to learn, problem solve and plan; to use our imaginations productively; and to step back and take an objective view of our circumstances. When any of our important needs are unmet to a great extent over a period of time or any of our resources is not made best use of, mental and physical ill health may develop.
